Logo

Sketches: My Final Black & White Logo: My 3 Colour Versions: Artist Statement: In this piece of work, I wanted to represent two cultures that made me who I am today; Japan and Dubai. My grandparents live in Japan and I travel there every year ever since I was a toddler and have grown up there. I created the Burj Khalifa using the pen tool to make a silhouette. I wanted to make the building one colour so I chose to do a silhouette instead of details as the logo design I was going for was a simple design. I chose to do this building because it strongly represents Dubai and it meshed well with the shape of the letter N, becoming the vertical line. For the letter N, which is the initial of my first name, I picked a graffiti font for the logo because the connecting area of the N looked like a tree branch. The font fits well with the theme of turning my letter into a sakura branch to show the Japanese culture side. I chose the sakura flower because it is an important part of Japan to me

Abstract: The Art of Design | Paula Scher: Graphic Design

In your own words, what does it mean to be in a state of play? Paula Scher said that "You have to be in a state of play to design. If you're not in a state of play, you can't make anything." To me, being in a state of play means that your mind is always thinking about creating art or anything creative that you do, the materials, the process, different ways to create, and the techniques. I feel like being in the state of play means being in the state of maintaining your creativity to create whatever you want, and that the ideas you are forming are not fully developed thoughts yet - they are able to be modified and adjusted.  Where do you discover your best ideas? I discover my best ideas while browsing Pinterest or just people-watching in general, anywhere I go. I like to people-watch because usually I see interesting poses to draw or ideas on what clothing combinations work, colour combinations, and just how unique everyone looks from each other. Pinterest is helpful

Calligram

In this piece of work, I wanted to represent the country that impacted the way I am as a person. I moved to Dubai when I was 12 and lived there until I came to Florida for university. The letter I wrote to my future self spoke a bit about Dubai and I wanted to embrace the country that changed me to be who I am today. I created the Burj Khalifa and the Burj Al Arab using the pen tool to make calligrams, outlining the structures with my letter instead of filling in the text. I wanted the edges and outline itself to be visible instead of the fill because the unique building shapes are what make them so special. I chose these two buildings because they are very well known for representing Dubai. This is because Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world and Burj Al Arab is the only seven-star hotel in the world. I added sand because Dubai is a desert city and I wanted to represent that as well. I also added a sun using the word Dubai to create it, with colours of the sun. Lastly,
