Somewhere

For my somewhere project, I chose to use the Twilight movie as I found it amusing to add myself to the movie. I like the movie and the characters so I wanted to put myself between the two of them. I used the quick selection tool and made a mask layer to take myself out of my dorm room and place myself in their environment. I made a copy of both the characters the same way in order to layer myself between them. I messed with the exposure and saturation to make myself somewhat match the colour scheme.

Portfolio

Artist Statement: I tried my best to keep my portfolio as neat looking as possible and kept a colour scheme that is easy on the eyes; black, white and red. For the front and back cover I used pictures of Japan as they are aesthetically pleasing and related to me. I tried my best to separate my work and make it as big as possible so that it is able to be seen. I kept the artist statement/most of my text on separate pages. I made sure to organize the layout properly so that the texts weren't next to each other and made sure it was kept in order of when we did each assignment. My favourite page is the logo page where I formatted it to look like a professional brand guideline page and it took me very long to lay it out the way I wanted it to. If I had more time, I would try out some different fonts and make some pages more interesting, but overall I am very proud of what I made.

Abstract: The Art of Design | Platon: Photography

In your own words, describe an image from the documentary or “The People’s Portfolio” that brought you close to your own emotions? This image about a mother hugging her son's gravestone in Arlington cemetery who died fighting for America. This woman sits by her son's grave everyday and reads to him. The story about this picture made me tear up because the emotions about this image are so strong and touch me because of my personal connection to Islamic countries (even if I am not Muslim). As an international student, the image represents that even though someone is of a different religion or race, they still get respected by the country they died fighting for. The mother's unconditional love even after he has died is so beautiful and the grief shown in this picture is so clear.  The picture captures the profound grief and pain experienced by a mother who has lost her child, highlighting the deep emotional connection between a mother and her son. It is a reminder of the hum...

Indesign Tutorials

The first video I liked the creative design that was taught as it will be relevant to class and the creation of business cards. I like how he played around with different formats, and the one thing that stood out to me while he was explaining was the way he tried to put the image inside the text. Learning how to do layouts like this will be helpful, especially with the way the images are placed and how the colors match the overall theme. I like the professional look of the black and white with the pictures placed artfully. The column tool is very helpful in this tutorial. The pop of yellow showing up from the black and white is very eye catching and a good design idea. In this video, the layout ideas given using full page photos with text as well as the formatting of headings, body text and pictures in general were really clean. I like the way the guy uses the rectangle shapes to mimic a magazine and use it next to the body text.
