Cat Animation

Final Animation:

Artist Statement:

For this piece, I wanted to draw something from scratch, and I wanted to do something with animals. One of my favourite animals are cats so I tried my best to animate it. I drew 8 different cats in different positions while walking, using google for reference. I used the pen tool in illustrator to create my cat silhouettes and then dragged them into Photoshop. I actually didn't use the tween tool, instead moving each one by hand to make it flow better and actually look like the cat is walking across the screen. Then, I took the grass stock photo and zoomed in on it. I added a filter on top of it to look more cartoony / more like art instead of real as the car is small and cartoony.

For the tagbrush, I dragged my transparent PNG brush file into photoshop and made it fade away by messing around with the tween tool along with the opacity. For the credits I tried my best to make it look like rolling movie credits. I used the tween tool for this as well and made it move from the bottom of my screen all the way to the center with my title, name, class and the term.

  1. Very cool! It's clear that you put a lot of work into this. The animation looks very fluid and I like how you added the grass in the background.

Portfolio

Artist Statement: I tried my best to keep my portfolio as neat looking as possible and kept a colour scheme that is easy on the eyes; black, white and red. For the front and back cover I used pictures of Japan as they are aesthetically pleasing and related to me. I tried my best to separate my work and make it as big as possible so that it is able to be seen. I kept the artist statement/most of my text on separate pages. I made sure to organize the layout properly so that the texts weren't next to each other and made sure it was kept in order of when we did each assignment. My favourite page is the logo page where I formatted it to look like a professional brand guideline page and it took me very long to lay it out the way I wanted it to. If I had more time, I would try out some different fonts and make some pages more interesting, but overall I am very proud of what I made.

Photoshop Tutorials

This video is cool when creating professional posters or wanting to go more into graphic design. I think creating the background and cleaning up the images is quite simple but the touch up on the images used takes practice to understand lighting and shading. The colour grading of the shapes and images is quite hard to understand when new to Photoshop. The positioning of everything and the choice of typography can be tricky too when matching a poster subject to the aesthetic needed. The tools itself are not hard to use as it was mostly transforming the images and a lot of it is similar to what we did in Illustrator. I think this video is fun to use when creating art from already existing images, as photo manipulation is a cool concept to understand when learning photoshop. Working on the compositing is quite simple to do as it is just editing already existing images from the internet and just fixing the levels of black and white on the images to create a mood/tone of the piece. Logo

Sketches: My Final Black & White Logo: My 3 Colour Versions: Artist Statement: In this piece of work, I wanted to represent two cultures that made me who I am today; Japan and Dubai. My grandparents live in Japan and I travel there every year ever since I was a toddler and have grown up there. I created the Burj Khalifa using the pen tool to make a silhouette. I wanted to make the building one colour so I chose to do a silhouette instead of details as the logo design I was going for was a simple design. I chose to do this building because it strongly represents Dubai and it meshed well with the shape of the letter N, becoming the vertical line. For the letter N, which is the initial of my first name, I picked a graffiti font for the logo because the connecting area of the N looked like a tree branch. The font fits well with the theme of turning my letter into a sakura branch to show the Japanese culture side. I chose the sakura flower because it is an important part of Japan t...
